Our University Holds a Top-end Seminar on “Oral History Research on the Spirit of Earthquake Relief”

On April 9, 2023, a top-end seminar on “Oral History Research on the Spirit of Earthquake Relief” was successfully held in Chengdu. Professor Wang Shunhong, Secretary of the CPC Southwest Jiaotong University Committee, and Zhou Zhaixian, Deputy Director of the Planning and Awarding Department of the Sichuan Social Sciences Association, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Professor Zhang Xueyong, Executive Director of the Division of Liberal Arts of Southwest Jiaotong University, hosted the opening ceremony. At the beginning, Professor Wang Shunhong extended his warm congratulations to the successful opening of the seminar on behalf of Southwest Jiaotong University, as well as sincere gratitude to leaders and experts who had long cared about and supported the reform, construction, and development of the University and the School of Marxism. It was Wang Shunhong’s expectation that through this meeting, all experts and scholars could pass on their experience and thoughts to the follow-up research on the subject. Meanwhile, the members of the research group should take the opinions and suggestions put forward by the experts seriously, make up for the weaknesses and shortcomings of the research, give full play to the advantages of the research, and promote the in-depth development of the research, so as to achieve new remarkable results.

On behalf of the Sichuan Social Sciences Association, Zhou Zhaixian expressed his sincere welcome to the leaders and experts attending the meeting. Zhou Zhaixian wished to witness fruitful results and the successful conclusion of this National Social Science Fund of China’s major project “The Exploration, Sorting, and Research on the Oral History of the Earthquake Relief Spirit from the Wenchuan Earthquake” which is promising to make positive contributions to inheriting and fostering the spiritual genealogy of the members of the Communist Party of China.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Huang Rongsheng of Southwest University. He Yun’an, Chief Expert of Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China and Professor of Southwest Jiaotong University, reported on the subject progress. Besides, Professor Yang Fengcheng of Renmin University of China, Professor Cheng Meidong of Peking University, Professor Li Youxin of Xiangtan University, Professor Qiu Xiaoyun of Gannan Normal University, Professor Wang Binglin of Beijing Normal University, and Professor Huang Rongsheng of Southwest University gave keynote speeches. Participant of the seminar also included Professor Leng Wei, Dean of the School of Marxism of the Civil Aviation Flight University of China, Yang Mengyun, Division Director of the 5•12 Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Museum, and Professional Zhao Jianping. Professor Qiu Haiping, Dean of the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University, Liao Jun, Party Secretary of the School of Marxism, Professor Tian Yongxiu, Executive Dean, Professor Hu Zixiang, Deputy Dean, and members of the research group on spirit of earthquake relief attended the meeting as well. The seminar took place in a combination of online and offline forms.

The experts attending the seminar agreed that the “Oral History Research on the Spirit of Earthquake Relief” had significant theoretical value and profound practical significance. The experts hoped that the members of the research group may fully draw on the opinions of various experts, and on the basis of existing research, they needed to further innovate and improve efficiency, expand their research horizons, and develop insights, eventually striving to complete the research with high standards and high quality.

This seminar was a success. The opinions and suggestions from leaders and experts are bound to be of great guiding significance to further boost the research on the “The Exploration, Sorting, and Research on the Oral History of the Earthquake Relief Spirit from the Wenchuan Earthquake”, a major project of the National Social Science Fund of China.
