The Selection of New Teachers for the 2022 ‘Situation and Policy’ Course Was Successfully Completed

In order to steadily improve the teaching quality of ‘Situation and Policy’ course, continuously realize the standardized management, scientific content, as well as professional team, and ensure the smooth development of teaching in our university. From March 29 to April 7, 2022, the Teaching and Research Section of Situation and Policy of School of Marxism organized a selection of new teachers for this course of 2022. This selection was strictly in accordance with the spirit of Several Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Strengthening the Construction of ‘Situation and Policy’ Course in Universities in a New Era, together with the principle of ‘choosing the best from the best’, which is divided into two stages: theoretical test (preliminary test) and live trial lecture (reexamine). Twenty-seven faculty members from each department and section of the University applied for this selection.

At 1:30 p.m. on March 29, the theoretical test was held online in the form of a closed-book examination, covering the Party’s basic theory, basic line, as well as basic strategy since the 18th CPC National Congress, the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, and key points of the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century. The focus was to examine the degree of mastery of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era by teachers applying for new courses, and to assess teachers’ ideological and political theoretical literacy. Teachers who had passed the theoretical test could enter the reexamine stage (live trial lecture).

At 9:30 a.m. on April 7, the live trial lecture was held simultaneously at meeting rooms X31225 and X31325, Xipu Campus as scheduled. At the first venue, Li Jing, Deputy Director of the Department of Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development of the University CPC Committee; Li Xueyong, Associate Dean of the School of Marxism; Zeng Jie, Director of the Ideological and Theoretical Education Division of the University CPC Committee Publicity Department; as well as He Wei and Xie Xingzhi from the Teaching and Research Section of the Situation and Policy of the School of Marxism attended and participated in the review. At the second venue, Xiong Yu, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Marxism; Yang Weibin, Director of the Training and Research Center of the Ideological and Political Work Team of Ministry of Education (Southwest Jiaotong University); Cui Jian from the Department of Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development of the University CPC Committee; Chen Sisi from the University CPC Committee Publicity Department; and Ma Xianrui from the Situation and Policy Teaching and Research Section attended and served as judges of this trial lecture.

Ma Xianrui presided over the formal trial session, and invited teachers applying for new courses to start the live teaching demonstration in the order determined by lottery. Teachers from different schools took advantage of vivid wording, professional knowledge, together with typical cases to give trail lectures on both international and domestic current hot spots in the guidance documents of the Ministry of Education. In the trial session, teachers applying for new courses were not confined to theory, but closely kept up with current events. Combined with the actual work of their faculties and their professional characteristics, they talked about their teaching content from aspects of life that students knew well. At the same time, teachers also took the initiative to design interactive sessions according to their own professional backgrounds. By analyzing real life problems or hot news and current events, the teaching content was more interesting and reasonable, highlighting the important significance of ‘Situation and Policy’ course teaching.

For instance, Wang Qiyao, a teacher from the School of Civil Engineering, interpreted the great leap in history from the perspectives of achievements and changes China has made since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, demonstrating the fine quality of the Chinese nation’s self-reliance and endeavor. Zhou Yibing, a teacher from the School of Transportation and Logistics, gave an in-depth explanation of the Outline of Building a Country with Strong Transportation Network. She combined building a country with strong transportation network with giving responsibilities to the youth, and emphasized the great role of the young generation in the construction of our motherland.Yang Yingzeng, a teacher from the School of Life Science and Engineering, made a deep interpretation of the New Concept for Development, and had more thoughts on the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle from the close connection between theory and practice. Liang Shuang, a teacher from the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, profoundly analyzed a scale of change unseen in a century in China from four aspects: the change of international power contrast, the change of scientific and technological revolution, the change of modern development model, and the change of world pattern. Yang Bingqian, a teacher from the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, spoke about China’s wisdom and responsibility in the context of China’s fight against the COVID-19, and linked the fight against the epidemic with the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

After the trial lecture of each teacher, judges of the two venues fully discussed the overall teaching display of each teacher based on all aspects of teachers’ teaching organization, and proposed and formed a unified evaluation conclusion in strict compliance with the relevant regulations. Experts from the School of Marxism, the Department of Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development of SWJTU Party Committee, and the SWJTU Party Committee Publicity Department put forward deep expectations for these new teachers in terms of improving lesson preparation, strengthening classroom interaction, improving teaching style, as well as promoting political stance.

As a Provincial Demonstration Course and a University-level First-class Undergraduate Course, the selection for new teachers of ‘Situation and Policy’ course of our university is held once a year, which is organized and implemented by the Teaching and Research Section of Situation and Policy of the School of Marxism. Under the care and guidance of leaders at all levels of both University and the School of Marxism, the selection of key teachers of ‘Situation and Policy’ course always adheres to high standards, and is open on the basis of merit for the whole university. This not only effectively improves the teaching ability of teachers of ‘Situation and Policy’ course in our university, but also further strengthens the teaching management of this course, guaranteeing the teaching effect of ‘Situation and Policy’ course in our university effectively.
